10 today! ‘Bomb site’ centre’s birthday
AMID excitement at sword-juggling daredevilry, a care centre built on a bomb site toasted its 10th anniversary on Saturday.
Ash Court Care Centre, which opened in 1999, was built on the site of a long-defunct factory and Second World War bomb site in Ascham Street, Kentish Town. It is home to 60 residents, including former Camden mayor Ray Adamson.
Until his retirement, Mr Adamson, 82, who was mayor in 1997-8, could be seen out and about in Camden with his much-loved labrador guide dog Katie. Since March the former Labour councillor, who is also an award-winning photographer, has lived in Ash Court, which he told the New Journal was “a very good place”.
Oliver Ashworth, an actor and street performer, entertained residents, while Emmerdale star Amy Nuttall released 100 balloons and sang Edelweiss from 1965 film The Sound of Music. |
