OAP found dead at home ‘could have been lying there for months’

A PENSIONER with no family may have been lying dead in his Somers Town home for months before his decomposed body was found by police, an inquest heard on Tuesday.
Officers told St Pancras Coroner’s Court that Joseph McDaid, 86, could have been dead “for a good few months” before he was discovered at the St Michael’s flats in Aldenham Street. Police were unable to locate any family and could not determine Mr McDaid’s profession.
PC Tina Massouras, who was called to the sheltered accommodation home by a warden who became concerned about a smell and flies, said the flat was “minimally” furnished with just an armchair and a table in the living room and was in a “very poor state”.
Coroner Gail Elliman recorded an open verdict after pathologist Dr Freddy Patel concluded the cause of death was “unascertained due to post mortem changes”.
