Umpires set gold standard

SPORTY teenagers have clocked up more than 3,000 volunteer hours as part of the Camden Leadership Academy.
The academy was launched earlier this year in a bid to encourage leadership and volunteering in sport among youngsters aged 14 to 19.
Part of the Camden School Sport Partnership, which links primary and secondary schools to promote PE in schools, the programme sees students volunteer in coaching, refereeing, time-keeping, team management and umpiring.
So far, 37 students have recorded 3,132.5 hours of volunteering, with 18 aged 14 to 18 registering over 50 hours.
Those students have received certificates, with gold level awards going to Lucy Nicholas (412 hours) Sonia Jesus Da Silva (398) Ben Smith (305) Kayleigh Eusden (247), all NVQ students at Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town.
