Belsize come up roses in Hill soccer tourney

SCORES of budding soccer stars turned Primrose Hill into a festival of football on Saturday when they competed for honours in the seven-a-side Hill Soccer School Under-11 Cup.
Ten teams from Camden and Islington were in high-scoring action on the day but by the quarter final stage, penalties became the name of the game.
Three quarters were settled from the spot after normal time failed to separate the teams, with Islington’s Angel beating Somers Town Future, Peel overcoming Allstars and Belsize seeing off The Hill all on penalties.
Clissold secured their semi-final berth with a 2-1 normal time win over The Hall, but penalties played their part in the Islington and Hackney-based side’s eventual elimination.
A goalless draw between Clissold and Peel in the semi’s had to be decided with spot kicks, as did the other semi between Belsize and Angel.
King’s Cross based team Peel and Belsize held their nerve to make the final but once again, it took a nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out to settle matters.
Charlie Drayton was the hero of the hour, his save securing the trophy for Belsize after they edged the sudden death shoot-out 6-5.
