Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 July 2009

The hated cyclist’s reply

• IT is a shame that Ruth Maxwell finds the “tranquillity” of the canal so spoilt by cyclists (Letters June 25).
I regularly use this stretch of canal on my bike and try to my best ability to cycle with care and consideration for other users but I do occasionally witness the sort of cycling behaviour that would irk some.
I think that such a narrow area that has to be shared by both pedestrians and cyclists is always going to create some conflict. Although as a cyclist it is nice to travel by the canal, I really only use it as it is much safer than using the congested and dangerous roads. Ideally there would be proper cycle lanes where cyclists could travel away from traffic and pedestrians and thereby reduce some of the friction that makes us the most hated bunch of people in London!
Nick Miller, NW5
