Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 July 2009

Help to stop the sell-offs

• CAMDEN Council must stop auctioning off good quality council homes to the highest bidder.
With overcrowding and waiting lists soaring we need more council homes – not more property speculation.
A modern purpose-built council block of three flats is up for auction on July 6 (see http://silverworkshosting.co.uk/camdendisposals).
Help stop the sell-off scandal – join the protest 12.30 Friday July 3 outside 44 Aspern Grove NW3 2BX. (opposite the old Hampstead Town Hall, near Belsize Park Tube)
Council tenants in Camden have repeatedly, democratically, rejected privatisation as a way to finance improvement works. Government say there’s money for new council housing, and the housing minister is announcing “greater financial freedoms for council housing departments”. Camden must join with tenants to demand the money we need to improve existing and build new council homes.
We call on all your readers to help build the protests. Take leaflets, petition and posters round your estate, community groups, church, mosque etcetera. Call 020 7383 2227 for leaflets or download from www.camdenfed.org
