Pop in! New fashion shop

SCOTTISH fashion models paraded their designs in a Camden Town “pop-up” shop last night (Wednesday).
The young women, from Heriot Watt University in Galashiels, are taking advantage of a pioneering recession-busting scheme funded by Camden Town Unlimited (CTU) and the council.
If a shop goes bust in the crunch, independent businesses are given the chance to use the empty premises for free.
“It’s really expensive because we are paying the business rates,” said CTU chief executive Simon Pitkeathley, 45. “But the cost to the high street of having lots of vacant shops is much bigger.”
The graduates’ unique showcase and diffusion collections – based on themes ranging from amputation to exploration – were already selling when the New Journal attended the launch night.
Grace Maran, 29, said: “It’s a really great idea and it would be really good if it was happening in Scotland too.
“It’s really important for us to get this exposure in London.”
Jodi McCann, 21, said: “Camden’s a really exciting place to be. When you step out of the Tube it feels like the centre of London. There’s so much going on.”
The Scots, who are making clothes to order in the pop-up shop, are in Chalk Farm Road until July 12.
