Sabre ace Soji up for UK Games

SKILFUL sabreur Soji Aiyenuro has been selected to represent England at the 2009 UK School Games, which will be held in Wales in September.
The William Ellis schoolboy (above), who lives in Belsize Park, is one of only four fencers who have been hand-picked to face rivals from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Soji will be joined by Islington’s Curtis Miller. The two train together at the Camden Fencing Club, which is based at Acland Burghley School in Tufnell Park.
Soji, 15, was delighted to have been picked to represent his country at such a prestigious event. “I’m really happy to be competing at the games because it’s one of those things that only a few people in the country qualify for,” he said. “It’s a real honour.”
n A TEAM of four youngsters from Camden Fencing Club travelled to Gournay in France to take part in the Challenge International Claude Berthelin Tournament.
William Moore was unlucky not to return home with a gold medal from the under-13s competition after narrowly losing 8-7 in the final. Moore had earlier eliminated Camden team-mate Rubin Amsalem in the last eight after edging to a 8-6 victory.
Eden Amsalem and Thomas Moore also put in creditable performances to finish in 24th and 32nd place respectively.
