‘Prostitution fears’ over new licence

A BID to hold late night gigs at a Camden Town pub has prompted fears it could worsen a prostitution problem in the area.
The New Market Inn pub, on the junction of Agar Grove and York Way, will learn on Monday if its plans to open until 2am on Friday and Saturday and midnight during the rest of the week are granted by licensing chiefs.
Police have urged Camden to turn the application down over fears the pub’s owners are already “struggling” with unruly youths loitering outside, while the Camden Square Neighbourhood Association said a later licence would attract kerb crawlers and prostitutes.
Chairman Catherine Hays said: “Extending the hours and adding live music at the New Market Inn will only add to the crime and disorder problem in the area.”
In recent months police have launched honey trap stings in nearby Agar Grove.
A spokesman for the Admiral Tavern, the group that owns the New Market Inn, said: “We are working with the landlord of the New Market Inn on the licence application and will be taking on board feedback from local residents and the police.”
