Wedge to boost business

BUSINESSES across Camden unite: it’s time to get Wedged!
That’s the dream of business group Camden Town Unlimited (CTU), who hope a new scheme launched this week called the Wedge card will boost companies in the area.
The card works by giving employees an incentive to spend money in their local high street, by signing up to the card which offers them discounts at more than 50 different companies.
Organisers hope the card – which has signed up some of the coolest names in NW1, from trendy venue Roundhouse to cult shop Mega City Comics – will encourage employees to put their hand in their pocket locally.
The scheme, which was originally the idea of Big Issue founder John Bird and has already been successfully launched in other parts of London, is being paid for in Camden Town by CTU.
Chief executive Simon Pitkeathley said: “We want to get people who work here – some 22,000 – into our high streets and using those independent shops for the benefit of us all.”
