Panthers savaged

MIDDLESEX Panthers endured a torrid bank holiday after suffering back-to-back defeats in Group ‘B’ of the Friends Provident Trophy.
On Monday, the Panthers slumped to an eight-wicket defeat away to Somerset at Bath’s Recreation Ground.
Somerset won the toss and decided to field first, a decision more than justified as Middlesex were restricted to just 65 runs in a short stint at the crease that lasted just 24 overs.
Gareth Kyle Berg top scored for the visitors with 30 runs off 42 balls.
It took Somerset just over an hour to reach a winning target of 66-3, with Craig Kieswetter hitting 36 not out.
The result compounded a miserable weekend for the Panthers, who suffered a six-wicket defeat against Kent just 24 hours earlier at the John Walker’s Ground in Southgate.
Kent spinner James Tredwell recorded a career-best of 6-27 to dismiss the hosts for a paltry 133. In reply, Kent stumbled to 137-4 to get their campaign off to a winning start.
