Cobden battlers’ triumph

Camden Sunday League
Bill Price Memorial Cup

PLAYERS from Cobden Athletic showed tremendous battling spirit at the weekend when they came back from two goals down to beat Archway Allstars and lift the Bill Price Memorial Cup.
Held at Cockfosters FC Stadium, the triumphant Division One side recorded an incredible four-goal turnaround to capture the final piece of silverware of the season in the Camden Sunday League.
Archway made a bright start and were twice denied in the opening minutes of the match by Cobden shot-stopper Martin Halpin.
The goalkeeper tried his best to keep the rampant Allstars’ attack at bay, but Archway struck twice in quick succession just before the break with goals from James Birney and Terry O’Neill.
Cobden refused to give up and were rewarded for their resilience early in the second half when Kaleb King dinked the ball over the final defender before firing his shot into the top corner.
Within minutes the scores were level when strike partner John Charles drilled home from the edge of the box. Patrick Jones completed the magnificent comeback when he somehow managed to beat the keeper at the near post.
With Archway reeling, Jones put the result beyond doubt when he netted his second of the game to seal a 4-3 victory, and lead Cobden to their second Bill Price Cup triumph in three years.
Sean Byrne pulled a goal back for gallant Archway Allstars to ensure the game ended as a cliffhanger.
