It’s an early exit for the Arsenal... and their fans

ON Tuesday night Arsenal’s dream of Champions League glory was destroyed, pulverised and smashed to pieces.
Perhaps it was destined to fail before the game had even begun as Arsene Wenger vainly attempted to generate an atmosphere at the Emirates – a task everybody knows is impossible.
His time may have been better spent showing his side a video of Cristiano Ronaldo, as he had soon silenced the home crowd. By 11 minutes the fans, appreciative and not at all fickle, were wondering how soon they could escape, while by 61 minutes, half of them were fleeing as though an army of traffic wardens with a penchant for 4x4s had been spotted on the horizon.
It was a sight to sicken the neutral. Tickets that probably cost an arm and a leg and a year’s worth of grovelling, in the hands of people w ho couldn’t be bothered to watch.
Anyway, now that Arsenal have won nothing again and highlighted the gulf in class between themselves and the big teams, perhaps their expectations can return to the dismal state of six months ago when despondency ruled the day and hope was nowhere to be seen.
Already the fans appear to have turned against Emmanuel Adebayor, who in turn is ready to flee like all those fans.
What you need is a much better attitude – getting that far was a triumph in itself.
