Gunner Girls’ FA Cup glory: Boss Akers heads for treble swansong

Women’s FA Cup Final
Arsenal 2, Sunderland 1

ARSENAL Ladies secured their fourth successive FA Cup on Monday when they beat Northern Division side Sunderland 2-1 at Derby’s Pride Park.
Katie Chapman fired the Gunners ahead after Sunderland goalkeeper Helen Alderson could only parry Gemma Davison’s venomous shot. The Premier League side missed several good chances before Kim Little sealed the win in injury-time with a neat turn and finish after controlling a high ball.
Kelly McDougall grabbed a consolation for Sunderland with the last kick of the match. The trophy was the 31st of Vic Akers’ spell as manager and keeps Arsenal on track for a domestic treble, which would be the perfect send off for the 62-year-old in his final season in charge of the side.
