Primary wins praise for ‘exhilarating’ teaching
LESSONS at a Kentish Town primary school are “exhilarating” for children, according to an Ofsted inspector’s report.
Torriano Junior School particularly impressed with its imaginative approach to the curriculum.
Inspector Keith Williams praised the “thought-provoking programme” that links subjects together in “a meaningful and exhilarating way”.
He added: “Almost all pupils put up their hands to answer questions, safe in the knowledge that their contributions will be valued by teachers and any misconceptions will be handled sensitively.”
But he said the school in Torriano Avenue, while outstanding in most departments, could do more to improve attendance.
Luca Salice, chair of governors, said: “We will be looking at improving attendance for next year but overall we are obviously very pleased.
“This has always been one of the best schools in Camden, but it is not a middle-class school. We do have middle-class pupils and we have many from ethnic minorities.
“We are doing well because of our positive approach to the curriculum.” |
