Failed bid delays Lido repair work

THE failed Lottery bid for cash to renovate Parliament Hill means repair work on the Lido could be delayed and plans to keep the pool in use all year round face being scrapped.
The Lido, which opened for its summer season last week, was due to have nearly £4million spent on it if the bid had been successful, but now the City of London, which manages Hampstead Heath, has had to go back to the drawing board to raise funds.
While staff have given the Grade-II listed building a spruce-up for the summer, the north terracing is crumbling, while corner foundations are suffering from subsidence.
The City has put £1.8m aside to shore up the foundations of the 70-year-old pool and had hoped to get a similar sum from the Lottery. Ideas included installing a gym, sauna and improving the café to attract people outside of the summer months.
