Film director Burton asks for permission to improve home

HIS films may favour cobweb-strewn mansions and Gothic gloom, but movie director Tim Burton looks set for sprucer living arrangements in his own home.
Documents published on Camden Council’s website yesterday (Wednesday) show the Sweeney Todd director has applied for planning permission to demolish the “dilapidated” 1970s first-floor conservatory attached to his Belsize Park mews property.
The proposals show that Mr Burton, who is married to actor Helena Bonham-Carter, wants to replace the old lean-to structure with a brand new copper and timber version.
Architects representing Mr Burton have promised an environmentally efficient structure, complete with double glazing.
In a letter to planning officers, architect Mark Beedle said the conservatory had become “very dilapidated” and that any repairs would “make better-planned use of the existing space in order to accommodate the client’s growing family”.
Officials will examine the plans and consider any objections that are submitted.
