Gunman hunt as shooting victim remains ‘stable’
FRIENDS of a Gospel Oak shooting victim who is recovering in hospital say they fear he may have been paralysed in the attack.
The 30-year-old man – named locally as Kevin Williams – was shot as he sat in a car at the junction of Roderick Road and Mansfield Road last Wednesday.
He was said to be in a “stable” condition by police, but officers have not confirmed that Mr Williams was paralysed by the wound. Mr Williams has twice before been the victim of life-threatening attacks. In the latest incident, he is thought to have sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police, who have not publicly identified the man, have distributed leaflets to households in the surrounding quiet streets appealing for information and witnesses. No arrests have been made by Trident officers – the police unit dedicated to tackling black-on-black crime – who are investigating the case.
A police statement said: “We are appealing for witnesses and information following a shooting in Gospel Oak. [The victim] was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance where his condition is described as serious but stable. Trident officers are investigating. Inquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident.”
