Support our ‘informal’ gardens
• CAMDEN Council say that they regularly over-order plants to provide for breakages etcetera.
The photograph of rubbished primulas (Poet’s prosaic plea for a host of golden daffodils, April 9) underlined the sad reality of such a policy.
However, there could be more acceptable ways of using these surplus plants to enhance the streets of Camden. They could, for instance, be used to stock those little informal gardens planted at the base of trees that I’ve noticed springing up across the borough. They not only look attractive but help to deter dogs from fouling.
These flowerbeds are created and cared for by public-spirited people at their own expense for us all to enjoy.
So let Camden support and extend this initiative by passing on plants that would otherwise be thrown away to those of us who want to develop more of these mini-gardens in our neighbourhood streets.
