Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 9 April 2009

Think again on the strategy for Stables Market

• CONCERNING Stables Market, it seems that the promises that were made to traders who occupied the space formally known as the arches are being broken as the build shows signs of completion.
What were meant to be refurbished [sic] spaces at rents relative to the original rates, are now being offered at up to twice the price. In the current economic climate this makes it impossible for the original shops to return to their old spaces.
What are we going to see instead?
More generic Far East imports or high street sweat-shop brands?
The owners of the market need to seriously rethink their pricing strategy if they want to retain the individual character of the Stables Market.
All the statues and brickwork will count for nothing if the thing that keeps people coming, the individual shops, are lost.
