Unworthy crack at an old smoker
• I’Ve enjoyed John Gulliver’s page for many years, never finding anything untoward until the piece on Betsy Blair (Farewell to Betsy: a Hollywood smash! March 19).
For our generation (I’m 82), smoking was an integral part of the life-style (for evidence see old black and white films); she would naturally have lit up to be relaxed for that interview (as I would).
“What came next shouldn’t have happened but it did” you say of Betsy lighting a cigarette. That is unworthy of you. (Perhaps you’re younger than I had thought.)
Not that long ago we were being told that masturbation makes you blind. Need I say more?
