Captain’s early try leads way

London NW League
Hampstead 22, Grasshoppers 3

HIGH-FLYING Hampstead continued their winning run on Saturday with a resounding victory over Grasshoppers.
Captain Dai Jenkins got his team off to the perfect start when he capitalised on an early mistake to score a try.
Hampstead added to the lead when fullback Damien Naughton ghosted past the back line before supplying a superb pass to outside centre Pete Evans, who coolly put down under the posts.
Dave Mold converted to increase the lead.
Despite missing a string of conversions, Hampstead still went in at the break with a healthy 22-0 lead after Jenkins grabbed his second try of the game and Andy Levett scored in the corner.
Grasshoppers pulled three points back in the second-half with a successful penalty kick, but Hampstead were rarely troubled as they recorded a convincing victory.
