Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 March 2009

True contribution to training

YOUR article (King’s Cross plans ‘will beat recession’, March 12) contains a major inaccuracy.
The council’s contribution towards funding training at the new King’s Cross construction skills centre will be £200,000 per year, not the £3.6million you state.
The council is committed to supporting residents through the recession, and ensuring that employment advice and training is available is crucial. King’s Cross Construction Skills Centre will offer local young people 150 apprenticeships this year, providing bespoke training designed by the construction industry that will mean they are well placed for the job opportunities that the King’s Cross development will offer.
The new training centre has been provided by King’s Cross developers, Argent, as part of a Section 106 agreement with the council. When the previous LDA funding of £300,000 per year came to an end, as planned, the council made sure new funding arrangements were in place to support the operation of the new centre.
The centre is also attracting new sources of funding, from the Learning and Skills Council, for example.

Executive Member for Community Development and Planning
