New rail bridge gets green signal

A NEW footbridge spanning railway tracks and linking two West Hampstead roads has been given the go ahead by councillors.
The footbridge at the West Hampstead Thameslink station will provide wheelchair access to platforms and is considered by Network Rail to be the first part of a revamp of the interchange which has been in the pipeline for more than 12 years.
In their application, which was passed by councillors at a planning meeting at the Town Hall last Thursday, Network Rail’s designers said there were plans for a new ticket office and longer trains, making the station easier for the disabled, elderly or those with young children to use. But not everyone is happy with the scheme.
Stefan Hoffart, who runs the Charlotte Guest House in near by Sumatra Road, said the plans had ruined the peace and quiet for his guests and the new bridge would over look their dining room, infringing on the privacy of his guests.
