Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 5 March 2009

Jobs health

• I APPLAUD Chris Basson’s decision to speak openly about his mental health condition (‘I had to go’: depression hits Lib Dem, February 19) and I wish him well in his recovery.

Mr Basson took the personal decision to step down at this time, but people with mental health problems can and do successfully hold down jobs. One in four people experience mental health problems at some stage in life and it is the responsibility of employers to work with staff and provide support. For many, mental health conditions can be successfully treated and maintaining employment enables a quicker, fuller recovery.
Our trust has signed the Mindful Employer charter. Businesses can do the same via www. mindfulemployer.net
The Time To Change campaign is aimed at challenging the stigma around mental health. Visit www.time-to-change.org.uk
