DJ and photographer Normski meets youngsters involved in the Haverstock Youth Panel
Break from Norm! DJ helps to launch youth panel

YOUNGSTERS in Haverstock came together in the fight against youth crime last night (Wednesday) – with a little help from Normski.
The DJ and photographer joined young people and police from Haverstock – frequently ranked one of the most challenging wards in the borough for youth disorder – to help launch a new project.
Thought to be the first of its kind in the country, the Haverstock Youth Panel will mirror the adult Haverstock Safer Neighbourhoods panel, which meets regularly to set local police goals and listen to concerns about crime.
The junior version will focus on improving the relationship between police and youths.
At the launch, held at the art gallery at 176 Prince of Wales Road, young people said they wanted to see knife crime tackled and a reduction in stop and search.
Others stressed the need for more youth clubs.
Normski, who grew up in the area, said that despite being asked to participate in lots of projects, he made an exception for one in his old stomping ground.
“The whole thing needs support,” he said.
The idea for the panel came from Haverstock police officer Sgt Danny Hewitt. “I’ve no doubt this project will contribute towards making youth more aware of the consequences of being involved in crime,” he said.
Tatum Donnellon, 14, from Castlehaven Road, said the panel was a really good idea that she hoped would help improve services for the young people in Haverstock. “They should have more places to go because they complain when we’re in the street,” she said.
