Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 26 February 2009

White van man wins

• THE United Kingdom has breached legal standards for sooty particulates (PM 10) for all of the past four years.
I am gobsmacked that Mayor of London Boris Johnson recently delayed white van man from being obligated to operate compliant clean engines – due to come into force by October.
Why did he not introduce an incentive scheme to help rather than allow these dirty polluting vehicles, and taxis too, to continue to damage the health of Londoners?
I have tabled questions to Camden’s full council on March 2 asking that Camden, too, writes to oppose any UK exemption.
Further, I have highlighted the unhealthy problem of the ribbon of idling taxis that inefficiently encircle St Pancras because neither station is managing taxi queueing.
Cllr Paul Braithwaite
Camden’s Cycling Champion
Lib Dem, Cantelowes ward
