‘Unlucky’ Gunners off target

Wenger laments lack of goals as Arsenal hold on for a derby draw at Spurs

ARSENE Wenger believes his misfiring Gunners have enough fire-power to catch Aston Villa and grab a Champions League place.
The Arsenal boss was speaking after watching his side fail to score in the north London derby against rivals Spurs on Sunday. It was the club’s third no-score draw in four matches and saw last season’s top scorer Emmanuel Adebayor stretchered off injured before half-time.
Wenger said: “We didn’t score, again, but we just keep playing and that’s all we can do. Emmanuel Adebayor is out for three weeks with a strained hamstring. But we have Nicklas Bendtner, Eduardo, Andrey Arshavin and Robin van Persie. I think you can say that we are ok for strikers.”
Adebayor will miss league games against Sunderland and Fulham, the FA Cup replay with Cardiff City and the Champions League clash with Roma.
“We just lack a little bit of luck and decisions are going against us,” said Wenger.
Arsenal lie fifth in the table behind free-scoring Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Chelsea. Both Hull and Manchester City have scored more goals this season than the Gunners. Wenger’s young team have failed to score in eight matches already this season – compared to just twice for the entire 2007-08 campaign.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s attack could be boosted by the return of Theo Walcott at the end of the month. The teenage winger has not ruled out an appearance against Roma on February 24.
He said: “I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up but I hope to be back by the end of the month.”
