The art of celebrity: School’s auction draws support from famous faces

JOANNA Lumley donated a picture of a glass slipper, Alan Ayckbourn sketched a contented cat sitting in a goldfish bowl, and Tony Blair apologised for being “really rubbish” at drawing.
Frank Barnes School for the Deaf has been inundated with artistic offerings from celebrities keen to raise money for the school in Harley Road, Swiss Cottage.
The signed drawings and other memorabilia will go under the hammer at the school’s first Celebrity Summer Auction later this year.
Famous contributors perhaps not best known for their art include Julian Clary, Jo Brand, Alan Titchmarsh and Bonnie Langford.
The auction will raise funds for a new minibus, equipment for the school’s Sensory Room and home-based Sign Language learning projects.
