Gunners add to firepower with ‘proven goal scorer’

ARSENAL Ladies have added to their firepower up front by signing Watford forward Helen Lander.
The speedy striker played for England at Under-23 level, but switched allegiance to that of her grandparents and has since made her full international debut for Wales.
Lander, 22, joined the Hornets when she was just nine years old, and went on to claim the captain’s armband in recognition of her influence both on and off the pitch.
Looking ahead to the challenge that awaits her, Lander said “I’ve been with Watford for a long time, so it’s obviously a big decision to leave, but I’m really excited about joining Arsenal Ladies.
“Their pedigree is well known both domestically and in Europe, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Arsenal Ladies manager Vic Akers revealed that the striker has been a long term target for the north Londoners: “We’ve always looked at Helen, and wanted to bring her to the club if the opportunity arose.
“She’s a proven goalscorer, and hopefully she will continue her goalscoring run here and help us secure some trophies this season.”
Lander will be hoping to make her debut on Sunday when the Gunners take on Colchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Greater London League Cup
Clapham All Stars 0, Camden Town 6

TROPHY-chasing Camden Town overcame the freezing temperatures on Sunday to book their place in the third round of the cup with a convincing victory away at Clapham All Stars.
Sarah Boyall opened the scoring with a magnificent shot from the edge of the area before Carmel Clinton doubled the advantage with another fine finish.
Goals from Mary Guest and Kath Wickens put the result beyond doubt as Town went in at the break boasting a 4-0 lead.
Clinton struck twice in the second-half to complete her hat-trick, making the most of two inch-perfect passes from Guest.
