Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 January 2009

New bridge for King’s Cross

• THE comments by Mme Muriel Langle from Paris on Saint Pancras International (A Parisian’s view of new St Pancras, December 31) should be treated as a timely warning for King’s Cross. She rightly enjoys the new St Pancras but is worried about various things including the safety arrangements if the station has to be evacuated.
At least St Pancras has lots of exits. The problem with King’s Cross is that Network Rail intends it to have just one exit and one entrance and they are about to close off the northern exit without making any provision to replace it. In an emergency everyone on the station would have to queue up to leave through the arches at the south end.
This is just one of the problems with Network Rail’s plans; the other is the inconvenience and danger which pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists will suffer as they are forced to make  their way around the station via Goodsway or York Way.
More than 1,000 people have signed a petition calling for at least a new bridge across the north of King’s Cross and the campaign would welcome more support – whether form local people, Parisians or those even further away. Details are at www.kingscrossaccess.com
