John Rivers
John and Brett crowned Middlesex champs

ANACONDA duo John Rivers and Brett McLean were crowned Middlesex Champions this weekend after dominating the pool in the short-course county competitions at Southbury Road in Enfield.
Competing in the 50m breaststroke, Rivers (left) smashed a club record as he touched home in 33.40 seconds to win gold in both the under-14s and under-16s age categories, also earning a bronze medal in the Open-age rankings.
On day two of the competition, the 14-year-old returned to take a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle, before joining forces with Dominic McLoughlin, Joe Grubb and Padraig Lynch to win two silver medals in the team events and take his personal county tally to seven medals. The success continued with team-mate McLean setting a new club record as he won the Men’s Open 50m breaststroke in 30.99 secs.
Overall Anaconda bagged 16 medals, setting 17 club records along the way. McLoughlin led the way as he set an incredible six club records and collected a bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Clare Walton also swam well to win silver and bronze in her respective under-14s and under-16s 50m breaststroke events, before winning bronze in the under-14s individual medley. The talented youngster also set a record in the girls’ relay as she teamed-up with Kathleen Bartha, Lauren Speirs, Harley Greer and Morgan Mockler to win a bronze medal.
Mockler had an outstanding debut at county level, setting records in the backstroke and the individual medley. Meanwhile Leo Kirby set four club records before joining McLean, McLoughlin and head-coach Wayne Lock to win silver in the Men’s medley relay.
