Talent Squad call-up for Ed

Pool élite: Swiss Cottage ace wins international place with England’s best

SPEEDSTER Ed Walsh has been rewarded for his premier pool performances after being selected for the England Talent Squad.
The star swimmer, who trains at the Camden Swiss Cottage club, has won countless medals and trophies, including twice being crowned National Champion in 50m and 100m freestyle.
As a reward for his efforts, Walsh has now been given a place in the Talent Squad, a prestigious programme designed to enhance the progress of English swimmers and help them achieve elite performances in international competitions.
Walsh will now take part in a special camp in January, before traveling to Thessaloniki in Greece in April, where he will get the chance to compete in an international tourney.
Walsh was back on the glory trail at the weekend when he continued his 100m freestyle success by winning gold at the Middlesex County Championships in Enfield. Camden Swiss Cottage celebrated a clean sweep in the event, with Felix Samuels finishing second and Harry Needs taking third spot.
Walsh was in sparkling form yet again, winning gold in the 50m butterfly, and collecting silver medals in the 50m breaststroke, the 50m freestyle and the 400m freestyle.
Other highlights for the club saw Alex Mackay, Samuels and Bogac Ayhan claim a top three finish in the 100m backstroke.
Camden swimmers also dominated the podium in the 800m freestyle, with Joel Sands taking gold, Alexander Burgess silver and Samuels bronze.
There was another perfect finish in the 200m freestyle, this time with Walsh hitting home in first place, closely followed by Mackay and Samuels.
