Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 11 December 2008

Fountain delights

• MY dad often used to lift me up so I could watch the South End Green fountain play.
That was 30 years ago when I was five.
Since then I have always held this as a special memory as I am now a fountain engineer.
During my usual London walks I thought I’d take a walk into the area and see if this fountain was still working as this would be the first time for many years.
I was very pleased to see the new landscaped area, which was clean and allowed one to sit and relax for a while. But unfortunately the fountain was off.
A few things struck me.
Was this the same bronze tiered fountain that I remember or was it a replacement.
The main reasons are that I remember the original fountain’s small central bowl was more patterned, darker and the central jet was of a small tiered spray.
I’m sure somewhere along the line this is a replacement.
Also is this fountain supplied using a pump or mains water supply?
