Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 11 December 2008

Borough’s £7m boost from TfL

• THERE is some very good news which was missed in your coverage on Camden Council’s successful bid for new funding for electric charge points (Electric cars boost under fire, November 27).
I’m delighted to share with your readers the news that Camden residents are set to benefit from more than £7million funding to improve the borough’s local environment and transport over the next year, not simply £40,000 for the new charge points.
The award of £7.267million funding to Camden Council – the highest in London – is from Transport for London for transport improvements across the borough as well as for specific projects to improve air quality in our central London areas through the Clear Zones Partnership.
The money will be spent on important projects including school travel plans and schemes to improve Kentish Town and Chalk Farm town centres, improve road safety and reduce pollution through increased walking and cycling.
This is very good news, which clearly shows the confidence Transport for London have in the quality of Camden’s proposals and the ability of Camden staff to deliver these.
This new funding will be invested effectively so we can continue to improve the quality of our streets and the environment and encourage more alternative, environmentally-friendly, transport options, benefiting everyone who lives, work in and visits the borough.
CLlR CHRIS KNIGHT
Executive Member for Environment
