Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 27 November 2008

Visiting ‘the pictures’ is not what it used to be

• CITIZEN Alan Brien’s comments on cinema-goers’ chairs flipping up as they left apparently not impressed with Citizen Kane got me thinking (John Gulliver, November 13).
Did we not go into the pictures in wartime wherever the film was running and then stay on to see the beginning? Which reminds me of the number of times I as a child asked outside a showing, where a child had to be accompanied by an adult, “Please, mister, will you take me in?”.
Can you imagine that now?
Eric Smith
Kings Gardens, NW6
