High standards and best practice will be followed
• I WANT to reiterate my sadness at Mr Kennedy’s tragic death and my sympathies to Mr Kennedy’s relatives and friends (Dad’s death: was danger alert missed? November 20).
At the time of the inquest the leader of the council sent a hand-written letter to Mr Kennedy’s mother, who was identified to the council as the next of kin, offering deepest sympathies to the family.
The leader also met members of Mr Kennedy’s family in person.
I am making sure the council is taking these allegations about past practice seriously and we are currently in the process of reviewing the information received from solicitors acting for the family of Ralph Kennedy.
This tragic event is the subject of court proceedings and other investigations and I cannot say more at this stage.
However, I do want to reassure Camden residents and staff that I have made health and safety a top priority since I was elected in 2006.
As stated in your article, we put in place a rigorous system of electrical testing and inspection in spring 2007 at a cost of £2million.
I have never tolerated complacency, self-interest, or sharp practice when it comes to ensuring we meet our health and safety responsibilities to our residents and to our staff, and, as we move forward, I will be making certain the council maintains high standards and follows best practice at all times.
