School’s double in cross-country

THERE was double delight for athletes from William Ellis School this week when they captured two trophies at the Camden Schools Cross-Country Championships.
Youngsters from the Highgate Road secondary school were in top form as they won both the boys’ under-15s and under-17s titles at Parliament Hill Fields.
Competing over a gruelling 3000m course, Se Oba Smith won gold in the under-15s race with an impressive time of 11 minutes, 16 seconds to help lead William Ellis to glory.
Eugene Potter of Acland Burghley School was second in 11.19, finishing 11 seconds ahead of bronze winner Paul Cotter from Northbridge House. And in the under-17s competition, University College School in Hampstead secured a clean sweep of the medals with George Laing winning gold, Tristan Goodman silver and Jamie Colwell bronze.
But it was William Ellis who were crowned the overall team champions after they dominated the remaining top 10 positions.
Runners from Channing School in Highgate shared the success spotlight as they won both the girls’ under-15s and under-17s shields.
Amy Jane Cotter of Northbridge House won gold in the under-17s race with a winning time of 12.20, finishing more than a minute ahead of Madeleine Meacher of Channing, who crossed the finishing line in 13.23. Lottie Sorbie of Camden School for Girls was third in 13.28.
In the under-15s event, Isabel Barnes of Parliament Hill School ran a fast 12.24 to claim top spot on the winners’ podium.
Edith Ault of Camden School for Girls was just two seconds off the pace in silver position, while Kelly Hookway of Channing finished third in 12.52.
