Stolen: the Art Deco ring
Stolen: the Art Deco ring
Stolen items meant so much to woman who fought cancer

THE victim of a burglary in Somers Town has appealed for the return of two pieces of jewellery that commemorated her successful battle against cancer.
When thieves raided the basement flat of Charrington Street resident Katie Spriggs earlier this month they took £30 in cash, an Art Deco diamond ring, and a gold Rolex watch.
For Ms Spriggs the items were irreplaceable symbols of her family and of her fight with illness.
She said: “The ring was given to my grandmother by my grandfather in 1943, and it was worn by her for over 50 years.
“My 104-year-old grandmother gave it to me in 2003 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, as a good luck charm, and I wore that every day.
“It is an icon of my heritage. The watch, my husband gave me at the end of 2006 as a victory prize after years of chemo and surgery.
“While they were just things, they were the two most precious things after my husband I can ever have.”
The thieves took advantage of a gate left unchained to allow building works in order to break in to the Spriggs’s flat on November 8.
It was the first time the family have been burgled since
Ms Spriggs, originally from Texas, moved there 10 years ago. After the break-in,
Ms Spriggs’s husband scoured nearby pawn shops but without success, and the couple are now offering a reward for the items’ return.
The ring has an art deco band, and a brilliant cut diamond surrounded by eight smaller stones. The watch is an 18 carat gold Lady-Datejust Rolex.
“I would like the thieves to know that when they steal, they take more than just monetary value,” Ms Spriggs added.
Camden police have asked anyone with information to call 020 7404 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
