Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 November 2008

New-look Co-op?

• THE Co-operative Food in Kentish Town Road near the Tube station has been very recently refitted.
There’s new hardwood floors and suspended ceiling, many new chiller cabinets and a new fascia.
I know about these things (as a shopkeeper) and I’d estimate that about £100,000 has been spent on the inside.
Obviously, this is an attempt to increase the Co-ops’ turnover and profits. But, deplorably, almost nothing has been spent on the outside.
At night the Co-op’s shutters are quite simply a disgrace, stained, bulging, dark and depressing, they and lower the tone and light of our high street.
I’ve been into the shop and remonstrated with the supportive manager.
It’s up to the community to press and shame the Co-op’s to do the whole job and improve our urban realm by putting in new see-through shutters to complete the transformation.
Please write to the
Co-op’s head office and demand better for our community.
Cllr Paul Braithwaite
Lib Dem, Cantelowes ward
