Saints’ mighty medals haul

A TEAM of prize fighters from St Pancras Amateur Boxing Club returned home to a heroes’ welcome this week after winning six medals in the Hancock Box Cup, which was held in Denmark.
Seven boxers from the Kentish Town-based gym flew out to the town of Skive, where they took on some of the most promising young prospects from across Europe.
Triumphant trio Alan Higgins, Charlie Webb and Charlie Worley all showcased an array of skills on their way to capturing a gold medal in their weight divisions.
Light-flyweight Joe Stevens also struck gold, before being voted the most stylish boxer of the tournament.
Another top performer was Richard MacAulay, who was forced to compete as a heavyweight because his preferred cruiserweight division is not used in Denmark.
The talented fighter still more than held his own against two heavier opponents as he battled his way to a silver medal.
Despite missing out on a medal, gallant Mourad Boudjemaa had his bout ranked fight of the tournament.
Featherweight Ricky Redhead scooped a second silver for St Pancras Boxing Club, who have now collected 10 medals in Denmark this year after winning four gold medals at the Haslev Box Cup in January.
Club manager CJ Hussein was delighted.
He said: “To walk away with four golds and two silver medals was magnificent. It just proves that all the support our local community is giving us really does make a difference in helping us produce some brilliant boxers.”
