Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor

Black poles: is there anyone out there to explain mystery?

WHAT is going on in Kentish Town?
In the streets where I live, mysterious black poles were erected some time ago but I have no idea what they are to be used for. Parking? Lights? Or maybe communication with outer space?
Patches of ugly black Tarmac have replaced York Stone, presumably following work by one of the utilities, but not one of my councillors has pursued the matter, thus grossly wasting the sound investment of the previous Labour administration.
Work in the canopy area in the high street has been going on for many weeks but there is no indication there of what it’s all about.
What these issues raise is the lack of communication and attention to detail of the Lib Dem/Tory administration in the town hall that leaves residents in the dark about their locality.
It’s really not difficult to inform people about what is happening in their patch but I’ve not heard a peep from any of my Lib Dem councillors since they were elected in 2006.
As a former councillor, I know it’s not always easy but what I see is a dominant Tory group obsessed with cutting public services to reduce council tax and content to allow the Lib Dem political leadership merely to strut around, consumed with its own self-importance, but with little idea of how to take the council forward.
