Archway Allstars are up for the cup

ARCHWAY Allstars prepared for Sunday’s President’s Cup final in spectacular fashion this weekend when they netted a surprising victory over Phoenix in Division One of the Camden Sunday League.
Phoenix made a bright start and took the lead midway through the first-half when James Cole scored his sixth goal of the campaign. Archway hit back to take the lead courtesy of goals either side of half-time from Danny Keohane.
Phoenix pulled the scores level when Ricky Lucas matched Cole’s efforts to score his sixth goal of the season. Phoenix were then twice denied the lead in a frantic finale. First, penalty calls were waved away after Lucas was pulled down in the area.
Then minutes later a shot from Cole was ruled to have hit the side-netting despite calls the ball had actually gone over the line. Archway survived the close calls to snatch a winner when Craig Jackson raced clear to fire his shot under the Phoenix keeper.
But there was still time for more drama, with Phoenix having an equalising goal ruled out two-minutes from time when Lucas was adjudged to have controlled the ball with his hand before placing his shot beyond the keeper. The win sends Archway into Sunday’s cup final against CS Maritimo full of confidence having won all of their games so far this season.
Champions Reddot are four points clear at the top of the table after a comprehensive victory over AFC Brasenose. Liam Barnabie bagged a brace, while Paul Reid, Steven Bruce, John Donovan and Tony Dowsett were also all on target as the Dots ran out 6-1 winners.
The only other top flight fixture saw the Constitution record their first win of the season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Moorehouse. In a topsy-turvy game, the Cons came from behind to take all three points courtesy of two goals apiece from Scot Read and Reuben Malcolm and a strike from Shane Murphy.
