Dominic heads new record haul
RECORDS tumbled at the weekend when youngsters from Anaconda Swimming Club put in a series of perfect pool performances in their opening fixture in the National Speedo League.
The speedsters set an unprecedented 18 new club records and 30 personal best times in the 50-event programme. Among the stars of the show was Dominic McLoughlin, who gained four individual marks on his way to breaking a whopping eight club records. The talented 13-year-old also recorded a convincing sub-minute time of 59.51 seconds to win the boy’s freestyle event.
Team-mate Morgan Mockler, 11, also made a splash as she set three new records across three different strokes, competing in the freestyle, backstroke and the butterfly.
Elsewhere Clare Walton, 14, set a new individual record in the 100m backstroke, before joining teammates Jessie Baker, Samara Williams, Julia Taylor, Veronika Kussa, Rhianne Thomas and Kathleen Bartha to smash three more records in the relays.
It was a second relay success for Bartha, who had earlier swam a supreme anchoring leg to set a new record in the 13 and under freestyle with Harley Greer, Jodie Sees and Lauren Spiers.
Meanwhile McLoughlin, Joe Grubb, Andrew Boadi, Padraig Lynch, John Rivers, Gabriel Cramer and Daniel Melville set three further records in their relay events.
Anaconda’s remaining individual record was set by Freddie Cornwell, 10, who took second place in the 11 and under butterfly. Leo Kirby also swam well to set a new personal best in the open men’s backstroke.
The super show was boosted by rare appearances from Rhianne Thomas, Andrew Boadi, Brett McLean and Veronika Kussa, who returned to lead Anaconda to glory. |
