D-day for restaurant as Dame goes to the palace

ON the day a dedicated public servant visits Buckingham Palace to be made a Dame, she will also find out if a restaurant next door to her Hampstead home will be granted a late-night booze and music licence.
Dame Hilary Blume, director of the Charities Advisory Trust, is due to meet the Queen today (Thursday) to be formally appointed a Dame for her services to the voluntary sector.
But while she is celebrating her honour, the Town Hall’s licensing committee will be poring over her objections to an application by an Indian restaurant near her home who want to stay open into the early hours.
Owners of the Maghna Grill, in Heath Street, have asked councillors to allow them to have customers on site until 1.30am Monday to Saturday and 1am on Sunday. But in a letter to the Town Hall’s licensing committee, Dame Hilary wrote: “There is no public transport at that time and very restricted parking, so there are bound to be problems.”
No one from the restaurant was available for comment.
