Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor
Published: 16 October 2008

Curbing cars

• I’M sure Alexander Nekrassov (Yellow box entrapment of hapless motorists is illegal, October 9) wishes to do nothing better than stir things up, so I’m rising to his bait.
Many people are behind Camden’s efforts to mitigate the effects that vehicles have on both our townscape and our lives. Vehicles: clutter up the streets, poison the air, kill and maim thousands annually. But at least there’s some point in plumbers having vans, and dustmen being able to collect rubbish.
But private vehicles have no point. Nobody need use a private vehicle in London, with its excellent bus services, community transport, taxis, Dial-a-Ride. So, anything the council can do to put people off using them gets my full support.
