Sub Miller is toast of the Town

FA Vase: First Round
Kentish Town 5, Thrapston Town 2

TRIUMPHANT Kentish Town booked their place in the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday with a five-star performance against Thrapston Town at Barnet Copthall Stadium.
Town quickly settled into their trademark passing game as they kept their Northamptonshire-based opponents on the back foot.
It took Town just 14 minutes to break the deadlock when wing wizard Karim Essiaghi was upended on the edge of the box.
Up stepped Paul Butler, who placed his shot beyond the despairing dive of the keeper and into the top left-hand corner of the net.
The visitors hit back within minutes when Ben Morgan collected a loose ball and raced through on goal.
The striker hit his first shot against the post, but when they ball landed back at his feet he didn’t make the same mistake twice and slotted home the equaliser.
Any fortune surrounding the goal was soon forgotten by the Kentish Town players when a rasping drive from Butler was parried by the keeper, straight into the path of hapless defender Sam Bate, who put through his own net to give Town a 2-1 lead at half-time.
In the second-half the home side were forced to ring the changes with injuries forcing out Javier Rivera and the impressive Essiaghi.
It proved the turning point in the match as substitute Larry Miller came off the bench to grab a crucial third seven minutes from time with an unstoppable shot into the top right corner. Thrapston pulled a goal back through Scott Beeney, but Jonathan Donoghue made the game safe when he scored from close range.
There was still time for super- sub Miller to net his second to seal a flattering 5-2 victory.
Director of football Frank Zanre said after the game: “We coped really well with the wind and looked the better side, but to their credit Thrapston Town never gave up.”
Town were rewarded for the efforts with a home tie against fellow Spartan South Midlands League side Biggleswade in the next round, which will take place on November 15.
