THERE were goals galore at Hackney Marshes at the weekend as we teamed-up with the Camden Sunday League to kick-off our prestigious Challenge Cup.
Overall there was a staggering 70 goals in the opening nine games of the competition.
Among the big winners were Phoenix, who scored nine in their game against AFC Shooters.
Phoenix have a lethal partnership up front, with Ricky Lucas netting a hat-trick and James Cole bagging a brace to make them the club’s top scorers this season with five goals apiece.
Daniel Syer, 16, became the club’s youngest ever scorer, while a strike from his brother Ben and an own-goal gave the Division One side an 8-0 lead at the break.
To their credit, AFC Shooters battled out a 1-1 draw in the second-half, with Phoenix only finding the back of the net once more through Mat Breen to seal a 9-1 win.
Cobden Athletic also went close to hitting double figures as they beat Division Three side Crouch End Rangers 8-1.
Cobden got off to a bright start and quickly found themselves 2-0 thanks to goals from Albert Bankole and Robert Saint.
Tomas Arcimavicius gave Rangers a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back. But the celebrations were short lived as both Bankole and Saint went on to complete their hat-tricks. Ryan Harley and Patrick Jones were also on target.
The biggest winners of the day were cup-holders Reddot, who stormed to a resounding 12-0 win over Hornsey.

Constitution ran riot in their game against the Mayville ‘B’ Team.
Tom O’Neill opened the scoring for the Division One side, but Mayville scored two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead.
The Cons hit back in style. with Seb Timmins scoring twice, and Daryl Malcolm, Shane Murphy and Reuben Malcolm all finding the back of the net.
