Kindness ‘junkies’ offer much food for thought

THE next time you see any of these three men, lean over and blow them a kiss, buy them a coffee or just give them a smile.
That’s because the West Hampstead trio launched a goodwill campaign last week called the Kindness Offensive that saw them give away 25 tonnes of food – donated by an unnamed source – from their West Cottages home. Speaking from among the piles of sweetcorn, fajita mix and beans, they explained that although they are fans of carrying out random acts of kindness – and are members of the well-known movement – it was no longer enough for them.
“We’re kindness junkies,” said David Goodfellow, 29, explaining how they came up military-style plan to distribute free food for the needy.
The Chalk Farm Salvation Army and Food For All, based in King’s Cross and Kentish Town, were just two of the 14 charities to collect lorry-loads of food.
Mr Goodfellow added: “Although the Random Acts of Kindness movement is meant to be a small affair – paying for a coffee, for example – we reasoned we were having a small impact on our aim and wondered what would happen if we teamed up?”
Mr Goodfellow, an events co-ordinator, said they are planning something even bigger for their next project.
