Police rule out drugs in Sharma’arke death

THE detective leading a murder investigation into the death of a Camden Town student does not believe the row which lead to his shooting was about drugs or gangs.
Detective Inspector Dave Rock, of Scotland Yard’s Trident unit, said the dispute behind the death of Sharma’arke Hassan, a 17-year-old student from Agar Grove, was not being treated as a turf war killing.
Sharma’arke was shot in the head in Gilbey’s Yard, Camden Town, on May 24.
His life support machine was switched off two days later.
DI Rock confirmed the weapon used to kill Sharma’arke was a 9mm handgun but he would not reveal what line of inquiry was being followed in
relation to a motive. He said the case was “centred on a particular dispute. It’s not gang related and it’s not drug related.”
Although five
suspects have been arrested and bailed in connection with the killing, the five month investigation has not lead to any charges.
DI Rock was speaking outside St Pancras Coroner’s Court after an inquest into Sharma’arke’s death was concluded with a verdict of “unlawful killing”.
DI Rock – the inquest’s only witness – added: “There is nothing to suggest Mr Hassan did anything to cause them to shoot him at all,” he said.
